INDEPENDENT PHYSICIANS GROUP LAUNCHES SELF-INSURED HEALTH PLAN FOR PARTNERS AND EMPLOYEES
(Charleston, SC – October 29, 2013) Palmetto Primary Care Physicians is pleased to announce a new self-insured health plan for the partners and employees of their independent medical group.
Frustrated with the group’s current BCBS health plan and concerned about the impending substantial increase in premiums, CEO, Jeff Lehrich, decided to do something about it.
“As a large healthcare provider, I feel we have a moral obligation to provide an affordable, quality health plan for our employees and partners,” states Lehrich. “The escalating health care costs in this market are not sustainable.”
Effective November 1, the full-time and part-time employees will have access to a health plan that reduces their total costs by over 50%.

New Location and Providers
(CHARLESTON, SC – April 5, 2013)
Palmetto Primary Care Physicians is expanding to better serve our patients. We have a new location on James Island located at 776 Daniel Ellis Dr (St. 1-B), Charleston, SC 29412. We are very excited to welcome Dr. Robert Teachman D.O. and his staff to PPCP.
Dr. Teachman is Board Certified in Family Medicine and his medicinal interests include Preventive Medicine, Wellness, Nutrition, and Sports Medicine. He is married with 3 children is an avid marathoner and triathlete. He has been on staff as physician for several runs, including the Cooper River Bridge Run and Kiawah Marathon. In addition, we would like to welcome Dr. Christopher Lawrence to our Summerville GI location. He comes to us from MUSC and will be in practice with Dr. Aaron Domm and Celeste Scalzo, NP. Dr. Lawrence is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
After graduating Cum Laude from University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Dr. Lawrence went on to become part of a number of Medical Insitutions including becoming a board member of the Charleston County Medical Society Foundation in 2011. He also finds time to be actively involved in his church, Bethel United Methodist Church, having served on both the Administrative Council and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.

Referrals
If your physician has requested for you to see a specialist and/or have a diagnostic test, in order to insure you receive the maximum benefits from your insurance company, this request has been forwarded to our Referral Department. We have a dedicated team of Referral Coordinators who review each request, contact your insurance company to verify the specialist you are being referred to is in network, and obtain any necessary referral authorization and/or pre-certification for diagnostic tests. In some cases, clinical documentation must be submitted for review prior to receiving authorization and/or pre-certification. This process can take 3 to 5 days to complete. If it has been more than 5 business days and you have not been contacted regarding scheduling your appointment, please call 843-820-3309 or 843-820-3418 to check the status of your referral.

Palmetto Primary Care Physicians Announces Richard Lauve, MD As New CEO
Charleston, SC / December 10, 2014 – Palmetto Primary Care Physicians (PPCP) today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Richard Lauve, MD, MBA, FACPE, CPE as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Dr. Lauve, 61, will oversee and support the strategic and operational activities for the multi-specialty practice.
“We are very proud of our accomplishments as an independent health care organization”, states Brantley Arnau, MD President of the Board. “There is no one better suited than Dr. Lauve to guide us in this next phase of our journey. He brings the knowledge and expertise, both as a medical officer and business leader needed to expand on the strong foundation PPCP has built, as we continue to practice industry-leading health care.”
Lauve is a graduate of Louisiana State University Medical School and Tulane University, AB Freeman School of Business. He was board certified in internal medicine in 1990, Medical Management in 1991 and spent the early years of his medical career serving in the National Health Service Corps. His extensive accomplishments include Assistant to the Chairman of Medicine for LSU Medical School and Medical Director of Medicine Services for Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Vice President of Clinical Affairs for the Voluntary Hospital Association in Dallas and the Medical Director for Voluntary Hospital Association’s Gulf States Regional Office in Baton Rouge and most recently Chief Medical Officer for Trident Health in Charleston.
Lauve is well known in the health care community for his national consulting work over the last ten years as an expert in leadership and team development. Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Lauve said, “Palmetto Primary Care Physicians has proven itself a leader within the health care community and I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the group during this important time of health care transformation. Our physicians combined with the talent and passion of the PPCP team provide us with a unique opportunity to shape the future of health care. I look forward to applying the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years to further engage our physicians and staff and to support and encourage their continued efforts in serving our patients.”
During the last four years, PPCP has made significant progress in the growth and development of their health care services, including the addition of imaging services such as mammography and the conversion into a multi-specialty group. Richard Lauve, MD succeeds Jeff Lehrich, who joined Palmetto Primary Care Physicians as CEO in July 2013 and led the company through the development of Palmetto Healthcare Network, their self-insured health plan and the announcement of their Palmetto Health & Wellness Campus at Nexton.
Dr. Lauve currently resides in Mount Pleasant with his wife.
